MetroRapid

MetroRapid

The new Metro Rapid bus stations run North and South along Nebraska Avenue and East along Fletcher Avenue in Tampa, Fl.
We placed the Public Health sticker on a Metro Rapid bus stop on Fletcher Ave.  We chose this location because it’s a popular well known area, especially to USF students. Many students and other individuals that live and work in the area use public transportation and will most likely use the Metro Rapid. The Metro Rapid represents public health by looking after the environment. The hybrid buses use 87% fewer total hydrocarbons that diesel and get 18% more miles per gallon, and lower emissions compared to the traditional gasoline buses. The Metro Rapid buses create less pollution by using compressed natural gases, resulting in cleaner more efficient fuel. The Metro Rapid, being public transportation, also cuts down on the amount of accidents because there are fewer vehicles on the road with the use of buses. The issue of public transportation is important because not only can it promote people to walk, by having people walk to the bus stops instead of to their garages, but it also promotes a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone in the community. By using the Metro Rapid we can not only save our wonderful green earth, but we can also keep our lungs free of harmful exhaust fumes. Also having public transportation can decrease the number of motor vehicle accidents and make it safer for people to get from point A to point B.

  1. Great posting! I think having good public transportation is very important for communities. They allow people to get to places more safely. As discussed in one of my classes, some people who for one reason or another (under alcohol influence) should not be driving do so because they do not have a choice when there is no public transportation. The fact that these are hybrid busses makes it even better.

  2. I like the idea of this post, public transportation can get a bad rep especially in places like Tampa where it is not as common. I think promoting bus stops like this and the fact that they are benefiting the community will encourage people to use them! I've seen these bus stops around but did not really know what they were for so I am glad I got to read this and know what it is all about. Especially since driving can be a pain and there are usually no options to get around in a city like Tampa. Cool post!

  3. This is a great post! I have used the transportation system in Tampa before and I am so glad that they created these new bus stations. Not only does this bus service provide a quicker route to downtown but it is also environmental and consumer friendly. I know many students feel uneasy about using public transportation and hopefully with the addition of these new hybrid buses, students will be more inclined to try it out.

  4. I think this was a good idea for your public health post. Public transportation is not that common in the Tampa area and to know buses are created to be more environment friendly, students may be more interested. I know some people frown upon public transportation but with the new hybrid buses, it has its benefits. People don't realize that it reduces air pollution, people are more likely to get some exercise in, and gets you to your destination the safest way possible. You're more likely to get in a car accident than riding on a bus.

  5. I had always wondered about these bus stops, pleased to learn about them! As people have said, students tend to shy away from public transportation. With the greener admissions and safe transportation hopefully more students will be inclined to take a ride. I know I sure will this coming fall. Interesting post!

  6. I think this posting was a good idea. The awareness of public transportation is out there, but sometimes it does not get a good reputation. The fact that it is environmentally friendly is a great thing. Our country is trying to lean more on the green side, and promoting this type of thing, is a great way to start.
