One for One
Our group placed our public health sticker on the bottom of a pair TOMS. We chose this location because with TOMS 'One for One' program, each pair of shoes sold means a new pair will go to a child in need. According to the TOMS website, "a leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet." It is extremely important that these children have shoes, not only to keep them safe from disease but also so they can obtain an education seeing as shoes are a required part of their uniform (TOMS.com).

TOMS are made for men, women, and children, and they come in several styles such as classic, cordones, botas, cords, glitters, and artist. There truly is a style for everyone. Our group stands behind the mission of TOMS 'One for One' program and because of that, combined with the support of others, TOMS has given over 1 million pairs of new shoes to kids in need all over the world.

I am planning on going into Global Health and the TOMS organization is one that I admire and would aspire to work at in my future. I believe that this shows that Public Health is not boring; it can be fun, fashionable, and effective. This organization is groundbreaking because it makes helping others popular and educates about world problems. ReplyDeleteI had heard of TOMS before but did not know what the TOMS mission was. I think the organization is a great idea and a wonderful way to help people in need and especially children in need of shoes! I looked at the website and it amazed me that there was such a variety of shoe options for purchase, such as the "wedding" style. After reading about the TOMS, I will be sure to make a purchase! ReplyDeletePeople who have never heard of TOMS just think they are regular shoes, but on the contrary, they are so much more! This is my first semester here at USF and I see TOMS everywhere, even in my own closet. I think TOMS are a great and trendy example of public health and from my own observations; the company looks pretty successful to me! Personally, I purchased my TOMS when I found out the story behind their creation. I went to the mall that same day and it really made me feel great that I was able to help a child in need.
ReplyDeleteTOMS have been a favorite of mine for a year now. I love how this organization reaches out to those in need and strives to make a difference. One of the best parts is that TOMS isn't just a shoe company, but is truly a One for One company since they added their new line of eyewear to the One for One family. TOMS really is one of the few companies that makes me proud to be a consumer.
