The Roof ...the roof is on Fire ... LOL

We placed our, “This is Public Health” sticker on the Hillsborough County Fire Department’s fire trucks. The Fire Department have provided Tampa Bay with excellent services of saving lives. These firefighters and their trucks represent hope, courage and honor. This is why we choose to place the public health sticker at the front of the truck. When the fire alarm goes off, they start driving and public health is to the rescue.
This represents a public health issue because these Fire Departments are a form of primary and tertiary prevention. They are considered a form of primary prevention because they help prevent the spread of the fire, thus saves lives. They are also considered a form of tertiary prevention because when they put out fires, rescue people that are already affected by the fire. Apart from saving humans, they also save our environment and other forms of life. For instance, if a case of a fire breakout in a forest, these professionals stop the fire spreading any further and inhibit it from harming the ecosystem.
This issue is important because it decreases the death rate of things that could be prevented, such as car crashes, plane crashes, fires, and other emergency situations. Firefighters also inspect aircrafts, buildings and equipment that could be potential fire hazards. Thus this provides another form of primary prevention. They also provide classes and training for various skills such as first aid and CPR services, and educate the public about safety measure when dealing with hazardous situations.

Every day these courageous people step into work with no fear and ready to save lives. They fight for Public Health!

  2. This picture was taken at the fire station in Temple Terrace. Also to keep the public safe, the fire station had a baby drop-off for the mothers who didn't want to keep their babies. This ensures that the babies being dropped off will be safe and care for through the government.

  3. I think you all chose a unique place for your picture. Fire stations are definitely a huge aspect of public health and of course, safety. What I really like about your location is the fact that fire stations offer more than just one way they contribute to public health. Not only do they obviously put out fires and rush to any dangerous emergency in the area, but as you mentioned, this fire station has a baby drop off for mothers who dont feel prepared, ready, or see themselves fit for their child. In a way, the concept of a baby drop off can be seen as preventative care, preventing the future and sometimes inevitable health issues of a child who cannot be properly cared for. Great post!

  5. Many people wouldn't think Fire Station as public health, but it definitely is. It's a great place. Fire fighters help all citizens during the greatest time of need. When there is any type of emergency, almost always the firefighters are first at the scene. The fire station contributes to public health on various aspects, way more than people have considered. As you mentioned, it had a drop-off center for women who are unable to care for babies, this is an option many women have that don't have the means to care for their babies. They ultimately help with emergency care, and of course fire hazards. On television, the media portrays their importance by doing the smallest deeds, like taking down a cat from a tree. Fire fighters definitely have a strong giving hand in public health. Great job guys!

  7. Fire fighters are a rather courage group of people. They constantly go into a situation without regard of their own safety. The total amount of good they do towards public health is a noble amount for they do directly and indirectly help not only the general safety of a person or animal but also the environment as well.
